Tallinn Central Library: A place for the love of reading and life-long learning
3. Norddeutscher Leseförderkongress 2023
We will introduce Tallinn Central Library, the history, and its different services, including our lending libraries for sports equipment, musical instruments, seeds, tools, etc. Furthermore, we will outline online and in-person activities aimed for children, teens, and adults. The lecture will also explain how we approach seniors as a vulnerable social group and what we do to improve their digital skills. In short, we will give an overview of a public library that supports a love of reading, aims to engage the community and provide opportunities for life-long learning.

I have worked in Tallinn Central Library for 5 years and before that I volunteered at the International English Library in Düsseldorf. I did my Master’s degree in Comparative Literature, so I’ve always been passionate about promoting and spreading the joy of reading, whether on radio or behind the circulation desk. I grew up less than a minute from my local library, and I’m happy to contribute to policies of keeping our libraries as places of joy for future generations.

Books and reading have always been an essential part of my life. That’s why I love working in the library. Tallinn Central Library has been my work home for almost two years now. I have worked in different libraries in Estonia for most of my career. I did my Master‘s degree in Information Science and studied the library system in Estonia. As my roots are connected with the Russian minority group in Estonia, I have made it my mission to help people living here feel welcome in our society by getting to know our culture and language
